The building located somewhat outside of town was part of the salt production facility and is now home to the Bismarck Museum.
Spa residence of the aristocracy
The building in Bad Kissingen’s Hausen neighbourhood was built in the 18th century. Prince-Bishop Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim from Würzburg fulfilled his wish of having a residence in the resort town. Prince Otto von Bismarck used the estate for 14 of his total of 15 visits to Bad Kissingen, as after the assassination attempt of 13 July 1874, he expected the area to be safer and also quieter than the town centre. The generously spaced living areas in the residence also afforded sufficient room for his wife and two children, who sometimes accompanied him to Bad Kissingen.
Comprehensive information on the most significant milestones in Bad Kissingen
On the occasion of the centenary of Bismarck’s death, the residence was converted into the Bismarck Museum and affords visitors the opportunity to take a look at the genuinely furnished rooms. Many colourful display panels and interactive media give additional information on his life and his influence on the present.
In addition to the Bismarck topic, the lower floors address significant parts of Bad Kissingen’s history such as “Salt and Salt Production” and “The Resort Town Kissingen”. A toy collection of the citizen Hilla Schütze is housed on the top floor.
